Poole test centre: 53.4% pass rate, £336 to get through it.

10,375 candidates took the car practical test at Poole during 2025/26 and 5,538 of them passed, a pass rate of 53.4%. That is a high-volume centre, ranked 125th of 308 on pass rate, and 9th of 21 inside South West.

That is 3.4 percentage points above the 50.03% recorded across all 317 centres, and 1.6 points above the 51.7% South West average. A centre in this band is usually working quieter road layouts with fewer forced lane decisions, not a softer marking standard: the DVSA marking sheet is national.

Turn 53.4% into money. One divided by the pass rate gives 1.87 expected attempts before a first pass, so the average candidate at Poole pays the £62 weekday DVSA fee about 1.87 times, or £116. Add 0.87 expected retakes at 7 hours of extra tuition each, charged at the South West rate of £36 an hour, and the extra lessons come to £220. The test cycle at Poole is therefore about £336. Among centres of a similar size in South West, Taunton runs 6.1 points higher at 59.5%. On the same arithmetic that is roughly £61 of expected difference. Before moving, price the switch: a new instructor or extra travel for route familiarity typically costs £60 to £120 plus two settling-in lessons, which eats most of a gap under about eight points.
